Petock Goes Back to Back for Second Time at Clinton County Garman, Wood, and Smith Grab First Checkers of the Year

Mackeyville, PA – Roger Fickett led the high-powered Shore Auto Parts Sprints to the line for their main event. It didn’t take long for top runner Matt Heimbach to take the lead coming off turn two as he pulled of a strong move through the middle groove. The field would stretch out and click off some quick laps until caution would wave on lap seven. On the restart Heimbach once again jumped out to the lead but twelfth place starter Neil Petock, Matt Miller, and nineteenth place starter John Smith were all steadily moving through the field. The yellow would wave again at the halfway point, which allowed Petock to close right up to the push bar of Heimbach. On the restart Petock dove to the inside through turns one and two to take the lead. Smith tried to follow but was unable to make it stick, as he and Heimbach would battle for several laps. The red would fly with seven laps to go as the car of Whitney Heydenreich and Fickett became entangled, which left Duff Aurand nowhere to go. All drivers were ok and all but Aurand were able to continue. On the restart Miller was able to get by Smith and Heimbach and he set his sights on Petock. With two laps to go Miller got within a car length of Petock and drove hard on the high side through turns three and four. Miller was unable to get the car to stick as he lost the handle and ended up facing the wrong direction. With a one-lap shootout Petock and Heimbach both got a good jump but there was not enough time as Petock drove on to take the checkers for the fourth time in 2008. Heimbach would once again have to settle for second with John Smith coming home with his best run of the year for third, Craig Folmer having a nice run for fourth, and Roger Fickett rebounding for fifth. Chuck Brion finished sixth, Matt Miller seventh, Whitney Heydenreich eighth, Jim Moffett ninth, and Bobby Howard tenth.

John Myers started on the hammer for the A & A Auto Parts Pro Stocks feature event. Caution would fly quickly as Jim Berry, Cliff Berry, and Brandon Glenn all tangled in turn three on lap one. On the restart Derik Garman would jump out to the lead with Myers holding tight to his bumper. The field ran till the halfway point until the Berry’s would once again find bad luck. This time last weeks feature winner Chris Berry ended up together with Cliff Berry and Scott Dorman. Both Berry’s would need a hook to the pits. Garman was able to survive a couple of late race restarts but was able to pull away for his first win of the year at Clinton County. Terry Shedden finished off a solid run from his eleventh place starting spot to finish second, with Denny Fourney, Keith Tebbs, and Rich Fye rounding out the top five. Sixth through ten were Dave Riddell, John Bouse, Brad Myers, Same Jensen, and Dave Jensen.

Ron Enders and Sons 270 Micros put on a great battle in the A-main event. Nick Wood took advantage of his outside row starting spot, as he wasted no time jumping into the lead. John Roberts and Glen Houtz locked into a tight battle for second as they swapped second a handful of times. Brian Kishbaugh methodically worked his way up from the twelfth starting spot and locked his sights on the leader. The field was only slowed twice for mechanical issues as they zipped their feature off quickly. In the end it would be Nick Wood taking the victory after holding off high point man Kishbaugh. John Roberts had a nice run to third, with Greg Steward, and Glen Clark finishing off the top five. Jim Welshans, Bill Frederick, Glen Houtz, Ben Houtz, and Trevor Orndorf completed the top ten.

Randy’s Auto Repair 4-Cylinder took to the slick track with Woodhull Raceway invader Randy Smith starting on the pole. Smith would jump into the lead but had a fight on his hands as Sterling Kepner raced him hard and clean. Kepner tried everything he could but Smith never budged as he made the three-hour trip pay off by taking the victory. Kepner would settle for a very close second, with Lee Zook coming in a car length behind for third. Dave Fink rebounded nicely from last week to take fourth and Cletus Gansel grabbing fifth. Chris Snyder led the next group across, with Eric Palski seventh, Zach Laubsher eighth, Larry Beachel ninth, and Dave Flook tenth.
